![]() Year 2001 Tournaments
TRENTON -- January 27, 2001 -- OK, so we got clobbered on our first tournament of the new year, which is exactly the way we ended last year, at least we are consistent. Check back after we play the Niagara Falls tournament for more exciting scores! NIAGARA FALLS -- March 24, 2001 -- OK, so we got clobbered on our second tournament as well. Not as bad as the first because we did manage to win a game which gives us a 1 game winning streak going into the Hogs tournament in a couple of weeks. SCARBOROUGH -- April 7, 2001 -- OK, so we got clobbered on our third tournament as well. At least we are keeping the trend going...thanks to Tony and Bob for stepping in and filling some vacant spots...we played 4 games and won 1...a lot of complaints about us being seeded wrong...we just flat out can't compete in over 35 age group...but, we also played real shitty hockey in my opinion...could hardly get the puck out of our end, and if we did, we couldn't keep it in the other end...19 goals against and 4 goals for in 4 games?...Dave, 1:15, an hour later makes a big difference in a 30 minute game...no wonder you were moving fast on Monday ; ) AJAX -- April 20, 2001 -- Haha guess what ! !! We didn't get CLOBBERED again !!! Yahoo, what a great weekend. I mean we got hacked to death by the Intruders but all things considered we won 3 out of our 4 games...first game vs Ajax Old Goats was a good clean game, we won 2-1...second game against Black Bulls who we beat in finals in O/T last year was almost a repeat but we won 1-0 with a nice point shot from Steve Moore...and on the third game, guess what the coach says? "...forwards play defence and defencemen are the forwards...", holy, that was fun even though we lost 5-4...but we met the Intruders again in the final game...this time they brought all their ringers out and really came on strong with less than 5 minutes to go and got a couple of quick ones to beat us 4-2 and win the Championship...we got a pretty nice t-shirt for runners up...another well run tournament byt Wayne Morrisey and Jack Hanna and the whole team in Ajax. LINDSAY, Ontario -- October 13, 2001 -- Well, we are off to an ominous start: 19 goals against, 5 for. We ran into a red-hot Ancient Mariners on Friday and combined with out short bench it was a 9-2 loss. On Saturday two more of our players showed up and it may have made a bit of difference as we won 5 -3. But Saturday night against Barney Googles, we couldn't muster up two good shifts in a row no matter how hard we tried. We were blown out 5 - 0 and out of the tournament. Thanks to some of our really faithfull fans for making the road trip and having a soda with us after the game. KITCHENER, Ontario -- November 16, 2001 -- Our goals for and goals against were slightly better this tournament but we couldn't even pull off a win in the three games we played. We had 2 losses and 1 tie. Unofficially, our record since January 2001 is 4W 14L and 2T. Ouch. It is a good tournament with 24 teams in total. Our division had 4 teams and there was one division for ladies. The games are all at the Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, and the ice surfaces are B-I-G ! ! and I mean really big. So take a lot of skaters if you ever think of going here. Newcastle, Ontario -- November 30, 2001 -- Well we didn't pull off a tournament victory in this our last tournament in the year 2001. We did add one more victory to the win column and one more tie and one more loss. That left us with three points in the round-robin and left us out of the finals on Sunday. We had an ok game on Friday against a pick-up team from Newcastle but on Saturday morning we were playing much better basic hockey and our skating was a notch above most of our past performances. After winning that game most of us went over to Ted's house and had some food and brew and talked about our upcoming tournament and how things are shaping up. (Things are coming along very well in case you were wondering...) So, a couple of hours later and we are back in the rink putting on some real sweaty hockey stuff and then out to meet the United Pest Control. We gave them a good run for the money as it was close through the whole two periods but they had much better puck control and were always beating us to the puck and they went on to win 3-2.
